Mallorca: A Destination Worth the Wait, Yet Not Without Its Pitfalls
For the past few years, I've been longing to visit Mallorca. With its crystal clear waters, breathtaking hiking trails, charming fishing villages, quaint mountain towns, ancient alleyways, and even goat beaches, it's a dream vacation spot. However, while our recent trip to Mallorca had many highlights, there were also a few regrets.
The Start of Our Adventure
Our journey to Mallorca was quite the ordeal. After enduring three long flights, we were relieved to finally arrive – but our excitement was short-lived when we discovered that our luggage had been left behind. To make matters worse, we were dressed in our New York fall clothing, sweltering in the 80-degree Palma weather. Our frustration only grew when we had trouble locating our rental car company. For future travelers, we highly recommend avoiding rental car companies that shuttle you outside the airport and instead opting for companies located in the parking garage just outside the airport.
Exploring Cala Figuera: A Serene Fishing Village on the Island
Once we had everything organized, we set off to Cala Figuera – a charming fishing village on the opposite side of the island. It was everything we could have hoped for and more. The parking was convenient with a variety of restaurants perched on the cliffs. We spent our time exploring the numerous coves and soaking in the stunning scenery. While it may have been a bit on the quiet side, we highly recommend it as a 10/10 destination.
Unpacking Our Bags and Discovering the Beauty of Mallorca!
After a few trips back and forth to Palma to retrieve our luggage, we were ready to explore the stunning landscapes and beaches of Mallorca. We've been particularly excited to visit Caló des Moro, S’Almunia, and Cala Llombard. These locations have become our favorites due to their natural beauty and photogenic qualities, making them perfect for showcasing our products.
Exploring the Towns of Sóller, Deià & Valldemoss
After a couple of days spent beach hopping, it was time to hit the highway and visit the picturesque towns of Sóller, Deià, and Valldemoss. The moment we arrived in Sóller, I was blown away by the beautiful mountains and ancient alleyways. However, parking was a nightmare; navigating through the narrow streets was one of the most stressful driving experiences of my life. If you plan on visiting Sóller, I would highly recommend researching where to park beforehand to avoid getting lost in the maze of tiny streets, most of which are only wide enough for one car. Our journey continued towards the charming town of Deià where we were greeted with one of the most breathtaking places I have ever seen. This small mountain town encapsulated the timeless charm of a small European village and boasted tropical vegetation. It was a surreal sight to see palm trees lining the mountain, and vibrant florals adorning the creeks and streams that run through the cottages.
Hot tip, we had the best lasagna of our lives at Trattoria Italiana!
Exploring Deià: A Day Full of Shopping, Sipping, and Sightseeing
Upon arriving in Deià, you'll find some paid parking in the town, as well as free parking along the road before you enter. Take advantage of the opportunity to spend time exploring, shopping in local boutiques, and sipping on a warm cappuccino. Before you know it, it'll be time to hit the road again. Make a quick stop in Valldemossa before checking into your hotel in the beautiful city of Palma.
Our Regretful Stay in Palma de Mallorca
We checked into the cutest hotel, Hotel HM Balanguera (which we were obsessed with), we realized that staying in Palma was a mistake. Don't get us wrong, Palma is a charming port with lots of outdoor dining, beautiful streets, and excellent shopping. However, it does not do justice to the stunning landscape and beaches that Mallorca has to offer. While we had a great time in Palma and enjoyed the shopping, we regretted missing out on the unique and stunning areas of Mallorca. Our next two stops were big cities, making us wish we had stayed outside of Palma to explore the island's many hidden gems.
